John & Alana married at the beautiful Makeney Hall Hotel, a magnificent Victorian country mansion, situated in the heart of Derbyshire, set in six acres of beautifully landscaped gardens with breathtaking views across the Amber Valley. John being a professional photographer himself, meant I had to be on top form for this one! (Not that I'm never on top form when photographing weddings!). I had looked at alot of John's own work and had been asked to bring in some echo's of his own style, what I'd describe to be on the extreme side of the documentary, reportage style... very dark, lots of B&W work which appears almost covertly shot.
With this in mind I set about using my telephoto lenses to get that shallow depth of field feel which is a prevailant technique used in this style of photography. For all you geeks out there I have a 105vr f2.8 macro, a 70-200 f2.8 and a 85mm f1.4, which is what I used for most of the preceremony shots I made a point of shooting through objects, using mirror reflections and some strong backlight to further add to the effect and then finished of what I envisaged in post production. I'm really pleased with the results! Some of my favourtie shots posted below... Congratulations John & Alana and I look forward to seeing you both for a viewing in the studio!
